Privacy Policy

Dimming Universe is an independent creative project. This policy explains, in plain language, what data we collect, why, and what we do with it. We collect as little as possible and never sell any of it.

Who we are

Dimming Universe is operated by a sole creator based in Romania, within the European Union. All data processing falls under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Our lawful basis for processing your email address is consent — you actively submitted it through our signup form.

What we collect

• Email address — when you subscribe through the signup form on our website.
• Faction alignment tag — if you took the Faction Alignment Test before subscribing, your result (Archivists, Bloom, or Synthesis) is stored alongside your email as a tag. This lets us send you faction-relevant content.
• Anonymous analytics — if we use an analytics service (currently Plausible Analytics), it collects no personal data, sets no cookies, and cannot identify individual visitors. It records aggregate page views, referral sources, and approximate country only.

We do not collect your name, physical address, phone number, payment information (handled entirely by third-party platforms like Itch.io), IP address, or any data from cookies or trackers.

Where your data is stored

Your email address and faction tag are stored on Buttondown (buttondown.com), a US-based email newsletter service. Buttondown's infrastructure is hosted on AWS. As a US-based processor handling EU personal data, Buttondown relies on Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) for lawful data transfer under GDPR. Our website is hosted on Netlify (netlify.com), which serves static files through a global content delivery network. Netlify does not process or store your email address — the signup form submits directly to Buttondown.

What we do with your data

We use your email address to send you:

• Lore drops and universe updates from the Dimming Universe
• Product announcements (game releases, preorders)
• Playtest invitations
• Community event notifications

We send emails infrequently — typically 2 to 4 times per month. We never send unsolicited marketing for third-party products. We never sell, rent, or share your email address with anyone.

Your rights under GDPR

As an EU-based operation, we fully respect your rights under the General Data Protection Regulation. You have the right to:

• Unsubscribe at any time — every email contains an unsubscribe link at the bottom. One click. Immediate. No questions.
• Request access — ask us what data we hold about you and we will tell you (it is only your email and faction tag).
• Request deletion — ask us to permanently delete your data and we will do so within 30 days.
• Request correction — if any data we hold is inaccurate, ask us to fix it.
• Withdraw consent — you can withdraw your consent to data processing at any time by unsubscribing or contacting us.
• Lodge a complaint — if you believe your data rights have been violated, you may file a complaint with Romania's National Supervisory Authority for Personal Data Processing (ANSPDCP) at dataprotection.ro.

Cookies

This website sets no cookies. None. Not analytics cookies, not tracking cookies, not "strictly necessary" cookies. Your browser may cache static files (images, fonts) for performance, but this is standard browser behavior and does not involve personal data.

Third-party platforms

If you purchase products through platforms linked from our site (such as Itch.io or Gumroad), those platforms have their own privacy policies governing how they handle your payment and account data. We do not receive or store your payment information — only the fact that a purchase was made.

Our Discord community is operated through Discord Inc. and subject to Discord's own privacy policy. We do not extract or store data from Discord beyond what is visible in the public channels.

Children

Dimming Universe is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has subscribed, contact us and we will delete their data immediately.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy in any material way, we will notify subscribers by email before the changes take effect. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
